Welcome to Montfort Secondary School

Dear Students, Parents and Friends,

Montfort Secondary School, Resubelpara a Catholic Institution run by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, an International Religious society following the footsteps of its founder St. Louis Marie De Montfort. The Montfortian education ingrained with the Education vision of St. Louis Marie De Montfort.

St. Louis Marie De Montfort, a man of great vitality, indomitable courage and spiritual strength was a seeker after the only treasure that mattered: Divine Wisdom. He was concerned about the human race, the most brilliant of God’s creation. By giving up to the ways of Wisdom, he developed pedagogy of acquiring true Wisdom that not only guided his own inner journey but also the lives of those entire he touched.

Montfort sought to lead the world around him in the ways of such wisdom, beginning with the poorest, the lost and the least. He did so in different ways as in ‘charity schools’ for the young, mass education using his great oratorical skills, collective social action, and writing scholarly volumes, popular tracts, poems and letters. The purpose and aim of education according to Montfort is threefold:

To learn, understand and love God as Wisdom,

To understand and transform oneself in the ways of Wisdom,

To become committed to transform the society in obedience to Wisdom.

This website is designed to enlighten you with the insight, vision and priorities and opportunities that we provide to our students. We hope this will be helpful to you. At Montfort we aim to provide a happy, inspiring and exciting learning environment that encourages positive working attitudes in all our pupils and foster a sense of respect and tolerance for the beliefs and opinions of others. We offer an assortment of educational opportunities for our students, through our curricular and co-curricular programmes that include parent-teacher and student-teacher meetings and discussions.

Looking forward to having you all with us. We earnestly hope that this would be the beginning of a collaboration that will continue throughout your child’s school career here always.

History of the School

A plot of land at Bolsaldam, Jonglapara was donated by late Shri. Alberth Sangma, the Nokma of Resu Akhing. Rev. Fr. E.V. George, the then parish priest of Resubelpara Parish was instrumental for the said donation. It was his dream to establish a school at the Jonglapara for the youth of the area. He along with the Bishop of Tura invited the Franciscan Brothers to open a centre.

The Franciscan Brothers, under the dynamic leadership of Rev. Bro. Macarius opened the new centre at Jonglapara on 10-08-1983. The very next year they opened an English Medium School at Jonglapara called “Alverno Abri M.E. School”. Within a period of ten years, the newly opened school was upgraded to an M.E. School and obtained government recognition and recurring grant in-aid from the Education Department.

Unfortunately, the Franciscan Brothers had to abandon their venture due to shortage of personal in the congregation. After closing down the M.E. Section of the school officially, the Franciscan Brothers handed over their centre.

From April 1995, the management of the centre reverted to the Resubelpara Parish. The Parish Priest continued to look after the centre, with the L P School and the farm with the help of teachers and other helpers. It was on February 2002 that Rt. Rev. George Mamalassery, the Bishop of Tura, invited the Montfort  Brothers of St. Gabriel to Jonglapara.

Realising the acute need of opening a Secondary School in the area, it was resolved in the public meeting of the Local Leaders and General Public held on 14th May 2002 to open a new secondary school at Bolsaldam, Resu. The name of the school shall be “Montfort School”. The Public meeting held on 8th November 2003 specified the outlook to Montfort Secondary School a Co-education School catering to the educational needs of the surrounding villages.

Montfort Secondary school was granted opening permission with effect from 01.06.2006
